From Icon to Off-Road Legend

Some projects begin with a plan. Others begin with a question: “Can this be done?” The Eriba Story is exactly that — a bold experiment, a technical challenge, and a tribute to timeless design taken far beyond its original purpose.

It started with a classic — the Hymer Eriba Touring. A trailer beloved for its retro curves, lightweight construction, and road-friendly size. But one client had a different vision. He wanted his Eriba to follow his off-road pickup — through mud, rocks, snow, and sand — without compromise.

The beginning: From elegance to ambition

The first step in the transformation was visual. We replaced the classic silver skin with a full matte Raptor Green body — scratch-resistant, rugged, and ready for impact. But the new look wasn’t cosmetic. It signaled the beginning of a total reengineering.

Under the shell, we reinforced the frame, replaced stock components, and designed a completely new suspension concept tailored for off-road travel.

The game changer: HECS suspension

To make the Eriba truly trail-capable, we implemented our proprietary HECS suspension system — independent swingarms, TIG-welded arms, vertical shocks, and progressive springs. The result was a transformation in ride quality, ground clearance, and durability.

We paired this with off-road wheels and BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires, giving the trailer traction and confidence over loose, rocky, and muddy terrain.

Function meets adventure

Beyond the suspension, we upgraded key systems:

• Increased ground clearance to 56 cm
• Custom fenders and underbody protection
• Ruggedized electrical and lighting systems
• Expanded rear access and recovery gear mounts

Inside, we preserved the Eriba’s charm while updating the cabinetry, insulation, and systems to handle extreme conditions. Lightweight birch veneers and composite finishes created a balance of warmth and toughness — a signature Carbontear touch.

More than a trailer — a benchmark

The finished Eriba Off-Road isn’t just a beautiful machine. It’s a proof of concept. A demonstration that design heritage can coexist with modern off-road performance — when you’re willing to reimagine every part of the process.
